Set in the capital of Georgia, Tbilisi, we meet Zhana, a single mother to an almost teenage daughter, Elene. Growing up in orphanages and on the streets, Zhana lacks education and a stable job. Occasional homelessness is simply the norm for her. Against this backdrop, when she gets the chance to make an easy buck by becoming a surrogate mother, she jumps at the opportunity, and surrogate motherhood becomes her source of income and full-time job.
Zhana’s biggest motivation is her daughter, Elene, whose future is all she cares about. They no longer live on the streets, yet they are far from living a stable life. What seems like a large amount of money to Zhana at the beginning is never enough to cover all the requirements of life. Then Zhana needs to start the process of pregnancy again and finally finds herself trapped in this situation.
Elene assesses the critical situation far better than her mom. Elene tries to convince Zhana that she has to give up surrogacy, but Zhana is too stubborn to obey. ‘This will be the last one’ - with these words, Zhana risks her health for the fourth pregnancy, which turns out to really be her last one. While delivering the baby, Zhana loses her uterus.
After eight years, Zhana finds herself almost in the same situation as before, however, the ties that bind mother and daughter have become stronger and in spite of the social circumstances being the same, the two women face the future with hope.
